Jewson MBS & Forterra National 3 Peaks Challenge
On September 12th Employees from Jewson MBS and Forterra along with a select amount of customers will embark on the National 3 Peak Challenge, climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours all in support of Band of Builders and Cancer Research UK.
The National Three Peaks Challenge is a UK endurance challenge that involves climbing the three highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales — Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon, that's 3000m of ascent! — within 24 hours, including travel time between each peak. It tests physical fitness, navigation skills, and careful planning.
Why are we doing it?
We’re raising money for Band of Builders, a charity supporting members of the construction industry facing life-changing circumstances. This challenge reflects what our industry does best - teamwork, resilience and community. They also offer Wellbeing support, this is important because the UK construction faces a severe mental health crisis, with 83% of workers experiencing mental health issues and a suicide rate nearly four times higher than the national average (approximately two deaths per day). Key drivers include intense stress (97% of workers), anxiety (87%), long hours, and a “macho” culture. Over 70% of workers have experienced mental illness, with 26% contemplating suicide.
We are also raising money for Cancer Research UK in honour of Meenu Gurjal who was a much loved member of the Forterra family and also having formerly served a number of years with Jewson. She was known for marrying professionalism, product knowledge and customer focus, all with a smile. She was admired by her colleagues and customers alike. A keen cricketer, a wonderful cook, who often brought biryani to team meetings (much to her colleagues delight) and a doting mother to her son. Sadly, we lost Meenu after a battle with an aggressive form of cancer last year. In loving memory of her, we are now raising money for cancer research, in the hope that we may one day eradicate this dreadful disease.
We would appreciate anything you can donate to help these two fantastic causes!
