The Triathlon Project
A World Record attempt to complete 40 iron-distance triathlons in 40 days
But what if she can?...
Starting from 6th May 2026, Laura Massey-Pugh is taking on her biggest challenge yet.
Already a Guinness Record holder for cycling around the World on a tandem bicycle, Laura has now focused her efforts on a solo challenge. Taking on the disciplines of swimming, cycling and running she is planning on completing an “iron-distance” triathlon a day, for 40 days, to set a new Guinness World Record.
This involves 155 lengths in a 25m pool, 112miles/180km cycling and then a full marathon (26.2mile) run… every day… for 40 days!
It is a truly epic challenge and the training, commitment and preparation have been intense to bring this Project together to give Laura the opportunity to achieve something truly exceptional.
As well as the record, Laura hopes to inspire others to take on their own challenges too, and push their limits and she wants to use The Triathlon Project to give others the chance to achieve their goals.
By supporting two local charities: YMCA Derbyshire and AYUP (Alfreton Youngsters Umbrella Provision) she hopes to raise funds and awareness to give others opportunities to develop and challenge themselves.
YMCA Derbyshire provides housing and meals for hundreds of people, but does so much more in the community too. They have a huge network of support and activities in Derbyshire from independent livers, to after schools clubs, to key college courses, to employment support and sexual and mental health support. They are an organisation which really focuses on the opportunities that, particularly young people, in Derbyshire need.
AYUP (Alfreton Youngsters Umbrella Provision) is a small independent charity, solely funded by the donations they receive, and have filled a massive gap in the provision of youth support and activities for the youngsters of Alfreton. By providing club nights and activities in a range of areas like music, arts, sports, games, self defence and even Dungeons and Dragons (!) they have helped reduce anti-social behaviour and give the youth of Alfreton the opportunities they deserve to grow and develop.
Every great challenge, every great achievement starts with an opportunity.
It may be up to an individual to seize it, but that won’t happen if it’s not available in the first place.
Laura has been in the position to take her own opportunity to achieve something exceptional and it would be an even bigger achievement if she is able to pass it on to others that have not had the opportunities they deserve…
Please consider a donation to these charities to help others have opportunities for the future!
