Never 2 Late Atlantic Row Challenge
Hi Jim
Ronaldson and Ian Davies are hoping to compete in Worlds Toughest Row Atlantic
Challenge as the oldest pair to row any ocean. In doing so hope to inspire
others and to show that age is just a number and raise funds and awareness for
two wonderful charities.
PAPYRUS
The Covid 19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the mental health of
young people in particular, many of whom have experienced feelings of
anxiety, depression, loneliness and isolation as well as a loss of coping
mechanisms and/or motivation. Disrupted schooling, loss of employment,
the inability to socialise with friends and the bereavement for lost
loved ones have triggered mental health conditions or exacerbated
existing ones. To combat this worrying trend, we will use our challenge to
raise both awareness and monies for PAPYRUS.
Myeloma UK
Ian has
chosen to support Myeloma UK as his chosen charity as he was diagnosed with
myeloma in 2014, a week after swimming the English Channel as a member of a
relay team. He has had two bone marrow transplants, in 2015 and 2021 and is
currently in remission. He feels that while in remission his challenges give
him an opportunity to raise monies for an institution that raises the money to
fund the research of new treatments that keep him alive!
Each year
approximately 5,700 people are diagnosed with myeloma, a disease that is
treatable but at this time not curable. Half of myeloma patients in England
will live for at least five years and a third (33 per cent) will live for at
least 10 years. Ian has now had 9 years since diagnosis.
Your
generosity will fund ground-breaking research that aims to improve diagnoses,
treatment and care for people living with myeloma.
On behalf of the whole myeloma community, including Ian, thank you for helping to build a better future.
