Adrian Pritchard walks the Pennine Way for Ukraine Aid

Sponsored walk in Aid of Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal DEC

Adrian Pritchard is an artist and Wyre Council Officer based at Market House studios in Fleetwood Lancashire. He was part of the group of HIVE artists in Blackpool that raised over £8000 in auction to aid the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Shocked and appalled  by the Russian invasion of Ukraine I now realise that there will be no short end to this crisis and I want to stand in solidarity with Ukraine and help the refugees as much as possible during these hard times.

Millions of refugees have fled their homeland often arriving with only what they can carry.  In order to stand in unity with the refuges I have decided to take on the Pennine Way walking 268 miles solo carrying my own sleeping, cooking equipment and supplies for the entire duration of 20 days of gruelling hiking along the backbone of Britain’s Pennine hills.

At 48 years old it will be the most physically and mentally challenging thing I have ever done in my life. I hope to come out of this with a greater understanding of myself and an appreciation for the things we often take for granted like food, shelter and been close to our loved ones.”

The Pennine Way is a National Trail in England, with a small section in Scotland. The trail stretches for 268 miles from Edale, in the northern Derbyshire Peak District, north through the Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland National Park and ends at Kirk Yetholm, just inside the Scottish border.

At least 268 children’s deaths have been documented during the conflict, along with injuries to an additional 423 children, according to OHCHR. That’s one mile for every child killed in the conflict so far and rising.

A sponsorship of just 10p per mile from one donor would raise £26.80 this is enough money to provide hygiene supplies for up to three people for one month.

Children make up half of all refugees from Ukraine. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reports some 2 million children have fled the country, with another 2.5 million displaced within Ukraine

Children are bearing the brunt of this crisis. Your donation today can help provide children and families searching for a safe haven with hygiene kits, protection and psychosocial support.
