Cape Wrath Ultra
On the 21st May this year I am going to attempt
the maddest adventure of my life! I will run the Cape Wrath Ultra – 400km up
the west of Scotland from Fort William to the Cape Wrath Lighthouse. Over 8
days I will run, walk and crawl over 11,500m of mountains, heather, peat bogs
and river crossings. Camping each night, I will start again at 7am each
morning! You’re mad I hear you cry! So why do it?
Two reasons:
1.
It is a bucket list thing for me – I love
running (crucial for my own mental health), I love the West of Scotland and I
love a challenge.
2.
The serious bit – in the time it takes me (8
days), 90 men will take their own lives in the UK. This is such a tragedy for
them, their families and everyone this touches.
I will be running and hoping to raise as much as I can for
two charities close to my heart:
CALM – campaign against living miserably – https://www.thecalmzone.net/
Sunflowers – https://sunflowerssuicidesupport.org.uk/
75% of suicides are men. Families affected by suicide get
very little support.
