Trevor Mudd (Independent Builders Merchant Group), Peter
Saunders (Edmundson Electrical) and Jack Saunders (Microsoft + Nuance) are off to Monte Carlo in a retired London taxi
- what could possibly go wrong?
The Pavestone Rally brings together teams from across the
construction supply chain to raise as much as possible for our charities
whilst taking our own particular brand of chaos and mayhem across Europe. This year our charities are:-
Rainy Day Trust is the only charity which exists solely to
help people who have worked in the UK's home improvement and enhancement
industry.
CRASH is the construction industry’s charity that helps
homelessness and hospice organisations with their construction projects –
creating places that care for people when they’re at their most vulnerable.
Variety funds and delivers life-changing programs that give
children and young people across the UK a better future.
The British Heart Foundation funds around £100 million of
research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that
cause them.
There will be over thirty teams in the 2023 Pavestone Rally,
each having acquired a car for less than £500 and decorated it (reasonably)
tastefully. From the start in Ghent,
each team will travel via Strasbourg, Innsbruck and Milan, to the finish in Monte
Carlo. Each day they will be given a set
of challenges to complete which will stretch their ingenuity to the limit. To complicate things a bit more, there is a
different fancy dress theme for each day – Where’s Wally, Freestyle, Charity
Shop, Food and Drink, P is for Pavestone.
But it’s not about the points…
Peter and Trevor have done this as a team before, most
recently around Ireland in 2010 when they came home with the Spirit of Scally
Award but not, alas, their three wheeled van which caught fire in Dingle. Jack was part of the creative team, helping to paint the cars for the 2009 & 2010 rallies. More recently Trevor has competed in the
Chandlers and Chandlers/Cembrit teams in the 2016/17/18/19 Vado and Pavestone rallies,
collecting a few memories along the way - not to mention a tattoo!
Please follow our adventures on Facebook and donate whatever
you can – anything you can spare will make a difference and be greatly
appreciated.
