Ian Stewart from Stratford is running the London Marathon for the British Heart Foundation
Hi
everyone, my name is Ian Stewart and I'm really excited to have this
opportunity to run the London Marathon.
I
was born and raised in east London, I currently live in Stratford, very close
to the Olympic Stadium.
I
originally started work with Royal Mail at Parcelforce in Cody Road. I used to
see these big HGV lorries come in to be unloaded, and I thought I could drive
that, so I did.
I
got a transfer just round the corner to East London VOC, when that closed I
transferred to Thurrock VOC, then when that was closed I transferred to PRDC
where I currently work. Hopefully that's the last transfer!
When
I saw that the British Heart Foundation
were having a ballot in conjunction with Royal Mail for a place in the London
Marathon, I knew I had to enter.
I've
always wanted to run a marathon, I've done a few half marathons but nothing
this long before.
I
guess you could say it was on my bucket list and I'm grateful to the BHF
and Royal Mail for the opportunity to
cross it off, while raising some money to help
save and improve the lives of millions living with heart and circulatory
diseases.
And as if running my first marathon wasn't a big enough challenge already, I have been given approval from Guinness World Records to attempt to break the world record for the fastest marathon dressed as a postal worker, currently 3:45:06.
Money raised on this page will be matched by Royal Mail.
A special thanks to those that entered the ballot to win this
place in the marathon, your donation will being going towards the total raised.
