Nats for Em10
This year marks the very special
year that my best friend officially turns 10 years cancer free. Emilie
was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma back in 2013 and so began the
heart-breaking 18 months of watching my favourite person in the world
fight for her life through treatment and after treatment.
Anyone who knows Emilie will
know that she lights up every room she enters, and she continued to do this
throughout each chemotherapy, radiotherapy, stem cell harvest, and over
ten operations. She is nothing quite short of a miracle and her strength and
courage carried us all through with her.
Of course, because Emilie is
Emilie, being a physical and psychological medical marvel is not enough for
her. She has decided that this year she wants to also give back to the amazing
charities that supported her during this time. She has organised 10 events to
raise money for the charities closest to her heart; The Little Princess
Foundation, Teenage Cancer Trust, Make-a-wish, Bone Cancer Research & Young
Lives vs Cancer. They need vital funds so that they can continue doing
amazing work with children & young people battling a cancer diagnosis.
I will be participating in the
below events (eek!) and would be so so grateful for any donations, big
or small ♡
1. Great Run Manchester – 10K – 26th May 2024 - completed in 49 mins with only a few
tears and threats of throwing up
2. Yorkshire 3 Peaks – 22nd June 2024- 'just' a 40km walk she said
3. Charity Swim – a cumulative 57
miles between friends –
covering the distance from Emilie's house to St James Hospital Leeds
4. Great North Run – Half Marathon
– 8th September 2024- after the 10k I am dreading it
5. Humber
Half Marathon - 29th September - two half marathons in a month – oh dear.
7. Charity Netball Tournament
Manchester – date TBC
8. Ongoing blood/Platelet drive – you can get involved too by donating,
taking a picture and using the hashtag #Em10
9. Charity Ball (including charity auction) – 14th December 2024 – tickets on sale
soon.
