Hospital Sim Racing endurance race

Hospital Sim Racing Endurance Race

In December 2023 I had a cardiac arrest in my sleep, fortunately for me, my wife noticed something wasn't right with my breathing and after witnessing me take my last breath, she instantly began CPR and called for an Ambulance. Thankfully after a long downtime, the Ambulance crew managed to get my heart started again. I was taken to the QA Hospital in Portsmouth and was put into a coma. After around 3 days I was woken up with everyone relieved to see a fairly "normal" me. I was informed of what had happened and was told what would be happening next.

Unknowingly to me, I had already had a wide range of tests to try and solve the mystery of why I had a cardiac arrest. The results showing a normal healthy functioning heart. I was informed that I would need to be transferred to Southampton General Hospital to have a Cardiac MRI scan and a subcutaneous implantable Defibrillator installed in my chest to prevent this from happening again.

That is a brief background to my story, but this page isn't about me, this page is about the incredible care that I received at both hospitals, it's about the Doctors, Nurses, Health care assistants, Porters, Housekeepers and everyone else on the long list of people that helped me along on my journey in Hospital. It's not only the care that they showed me and other patients that I witnessed them help every day, it was also the extraordinary care and support they showed my family through this difficult time that blew me away.

I love sim racing and with the help of my Sim racing friends, I wanted to put on a Sim racing Endurance race to raise funds for both the charities that operate to support each hospital. It's a small start for me to say thank you to all the wonderful people I met and didn't meet along my journey. The money raised will go to support the hospitals raising vital funds for patient care and staff welfare. Thank you so much for showing support for these life-saving causes.
