In memory of my nan, Anne
I'm taking part in the Thames Moonlight 10 Walk, a 10 mile walk through the heart of London on 8th September, in memory of my lovely nan, Anne, who died in November 2021.
I've chosen two charities; firstly, Cancer Research UK. My nan didn't die of cancer, but she was diagnosed with the disease in 2000. Although the treatment was fairly gruelling and not without its side effects, it was successful and gave her another 20+ years of life - precious years which allowed her to spend time with her family and share many milestones, including becoming a great-grandmother to my children, whom she adored.
My second charity is Holding On Letting Go (HOLG), a children's bereavement charity based in Kent which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Helping a child through the death of someone close to them is difficult for any family, particularly when the adults are grieving themselves, and that's where the amazing team at HOLG step in. I work with the charity and not only have I spoken to many families they have helped but they were also there to give me support and advice to help my children through their grief.
Nan loved London so this feels a fitting way to remember her.
