The Lord Mayor of Liverpool is the first citizen and chosen representative of the city, acting as a focal point for the community as well as promoting the city, forging national and international links.
The current Lord Mayor, for 2025-2026, is Councillor Barbara Murray.
Each year the Lord Mayor of Liverpool raises money to be distributed to local charities or charities with a Liverpool connection. Liverpool's Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal has helped raise over £1 million for local good causes in recent years.
The Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal 2025-2026 is raising funds for Liverpool Education Grants Charitable Trust (LEGCT).

Background
The Lord Mayor of Liverpool is always a serving Councillor, elected by the full council at its Annual General Meeting held each May, and usually stands for one year in office.
The role of the Lord Mayor includes:
- Representing the city at civic functions and engagements.
- Promoting the city nationally and internationally.
- Supporting local charities and community groups.
- Attending religious events of all denominations.
- Meeting delegates from twinned cities
- Chairing council meetings.
- Conferring Honorary Freemen and Associations.
