The Rossendale Walk of Remembrance 2026

The First. The Original. The Only One of Its Kind

In 2024, the Rossendale Walk of Remembrance was created with a simple but ambitious mission:

To visit every known site of remembrance across the Borough of Rossendale.

Today, it remains a unique act of remembrance unlike anything else in the borough and, as far as we are aware, unlike any other remembrance walk in the country.

Over four days, our walkers will cover more than 60 miles, visiting every known cenotaph, war memorial, roll of honour, memorial garden and place of remembrance in Rossendale.

From memorials commemorating those who served in the First World War to tributes honouring the service and sacrifice of more recent generations, the Walk of Remembrance brings together the entire borough in a single journey of reflection, respect and remembrance.

This is not a walk between a handful of memorials.

This is not a single ceremony in a single town.

This is a commitment to ensure that every known place of remembrance in Rossendale is visited, honoured and remembered.

Every community.

Every memorial.

Every name.

Why We Walk

The names carved into stone cannot tell their stories themselves.

We walk to ensure those stories continue to be heard.

Over four days, walkers will pause at every known site of remembrance across Rossendale, paying tribute to those who served, those who never returned, and the generations of families whose lives were forever changed by conflict.

From village memorials and church rolls of honour to the borough's cenotaphs and remembrance gardens, each stop represents a chapter in Rossendale's history and a reminder of the sacrifices made in service to our nation.

Together, these sites tell the story of a borough that answered the call when duty demanded it.
