Graham's Family Half Marathon in aid of British Heart Foundation in partnership with Royal Mail
So, picture me, getting off my backside and deciding to start running a bit doing a couch to 5k plan last Spring. Made it, and have been doing the odd couple of 3k - 5k runs at Bushey Park (near Hampton Court) over the last 6 months. Then, in November, my son (Jonathan) says "hey Dad, shall we enter the Hampton Court Half Marathon in March?" Well, without thinking about what was to come I said, yeah sure, plenty of time to train. What didn't I think about... oh yeah, training will be during the winter months, and what fun it's been getting out of it at 6am running in Bushey at -1, mist, bit of rain... but has it been worth it, absolutely. There are now six of us from the family, my two sons, their partners and another of the dads (a lot fitter than me) so we have a mini team.
Wanted to raise funds for the BHF as they do an amazing job, fantastic life saving training for everyone to learn (check out the URL link below for CPR training) and great vision to promoting healthier hearts.
Event Update
We made it. It was tough, at times more like a 21km tough mudder event thanks to excessive rain the night before. Quite a few knees are very unhappy, both young and old, but it was worth it. So delighted. I managed 2hrs 23 minutes which I'm very pleased with as it would have been faster if not for the mud bath. Thanks to everyone who has sponsored us thus far. The page is open until 7th April so if you can, please keep the donations flowing.
